Alested Festival 2017

We hosted our first Summer Solstice Ale and Music festival – ‘Alested’ on the weekend of 17/18th June 2017. Having taken over the pub in Feburary 2017 we felt that we wanted to create an event to introduce ourselves to new customers; thank the local customers for their continued support; and provide a networking event for all persons in the area (and local musicians). Additionally, we thought what a better way for people to celebrate Father’s day – than to attend a pub event full of live music and beer! (continued below)

The music for both days were managed by Rowan Piggott and Rosie Hodgson – famous, well known musicians , and family/friends of The Elsted Inn Management.

We had a selection of ales and beer on offer, and would like to say a massive thank you to Bowmans Brewery for their support with providing the equipment and cooling system.

The BBQ was sumptuous- Rother Valley Organics beef burgers, served with lashings of caramelised onions and melted Cheddar. Locally produced, large Cumberland blend sausages, smothered with all the appropriate accompaniments!  A salad bar including French bean and mange tout salad with toasted hazelnuts and zesty orange; homemade coleslaw with mixed cabbage and Chef’s secret dressing; and refreshing, sweet Heirloom tomatoes and authentic Italian mozzarella. The salad was initially made with Vegans and Vegetarian in mind – but became incredibly popular with all due to the surprising Tropical weather!! . We also created a new twist on the lamb spit roast – served with a flour tortilla, tzatziki, and fresh peppery leaves. Also - Halloumi wraps, with shredded lettuce, Heirloom tomatoes, and sharp pomegranate dressing. We figured that wraps were the easiest food to eat whilst talking to people, getting a beer, and dancing to the music!

It was lovely to see the Chef’s out-front, getting the opportunity to speak to the customers and receive the compliments personally.
Thank you to all who attended, joined in, and supported! It was truly a local effort – and we can’t wait to make next year bigger, more vibrant, and really put our small countryside pub ‘on the map’. An especial thank you to our friends and local customers for the specific support with marquees, gardening, lighting, DIY, bartending, and decorative charity shop purchases!

Here’s to the second one in 2018!
