“Good food lovely staff… A meal with friends as we missed their anniversary. The greeting was pleasant and Thais took time to chat and give us a flavour of what they are looking to achieve. All three courses were well cooked and well presented. They are trying something different from ordinary pub food in a pub that is off the beaten track and are making every effort to succeed. We wish them luck.”

“Lovely Sunday lunch! We visited the Elsted Arms [sic] yesterday for a lovely Sunday pub lunch. I can not fault this place at all. The staff were so kind and attentive and all the food is made from scratch so even when I needed to make changes to my dish to avoid any alcohol they were able to do this without making me feel like a pain for asking. I was assured that allergies are always taken seriously and with out any criticism. As a vegetarian I was so happy to see that there was a lot on offer as choices which is great to see in a pub as often it can be so limited. We ended up having three courses and left very full and happy. The food was just divine and they also made our dog who accompanied us very welcome too! We will certainly be visiting again in the near future.”

”Dog friendly and excellent food! We chose the Elsted Inn as a half way meeting place for us in Alton and brother in law in Worthing. Today was our second in 6 weeks and I wanted to ensure consistency before commenting. First of all they very dog friendly, which makes a world of difference for trips such as ours. Dog biscuits on the bar and wate bowl also available. The four of us have tried a variety of dishes and the food is freshly prepared and excellent. The desrts are also well above the normal pub avarage. We four thoroughly recommend the Elsted Inn.”

”Lovely pub… We were there for lunch Excellent good value food nicely presented and served Nice beer V friendly and charming landlady This is my favourite sort of place , a pub that does nice food but hasn't turned into a restaurant You can still just drop in and have a pint a bar snack and even a game of darts Top marks for General welcoming ambience.”

"We chose the Elsted Inn because it was equidistant between two families gathering for a catch up. What a happy decision! From the moment we first called to make the booking, the team were so friendly and helpful. They enquired about allergies and then went to great lengths to check ingredients and reassure those in our party who had gluten and nut allergies. We were a group of 10 and they also made sure our arrival time was managed so that they could get our order in before other groups arrived. The food was really delicious, locally sourced and freshly prepared, and the atmosphere so friendly and relaxed."

"Quirky, quaint & excellent! Visited for lunch today although busy were able to fit us in and although said there would be a delay not long at all. Lovely service friendly and charming will definitely go again Dog friendly and lovely ambience – real country pub."

"Called in for lunch after a morning walk on the downs nearby. We found the service welcoming and friendly and didn't need to wait too long for our meals to arrive We had a flat iron steak and a burger, both good choices as we didn't want too heavy a meal. The steak was lean and tasty, served with chips and side salad. The (cheese) burger was organic and of a good size, it came with chips and coleslaw. If we were in the area, we would certainly visit again."

13 of us enjoyed Sunday lunch today. Most of us had one of the roasts and were very impressed with the meals. One person is vegetarian and she was offered additional choices not on the menu. We all felt very welcome and will return if we are walking nearby again.

"Visited last night with our daughter and fiancé to celebrate my husband's birthday. Pub had a great atmosphere. Waitress was nice and friendly. Small menu which changes regularly I believe. Two of us had the mushroom pate and two had the shrimp and crayfish risotto starters. Both dishes were delicious. Then we had the rib-eye steak and pork belly. Again, really lovely. Steaks cooked just how we had asked. Generous portions. Home made ice creams were great. All in all we raved about our meal all the way home and will look forward to visiting again when we are staying with our daughter and her fiancé. I am very jealous this place is only a 17 minute walk away for them!"

"Roast dinner winner. Welcoming staff, quick to provide a really good service. This pub held a good range of beers and ciders. The roast was tasty and well cooked, good value for this area too."

"Found Elsted Inn by chance while staying over in Midhurst. We were made very welcome right away by friendly staff. Food and surroundings were spot on. The landlady made a point of introducing herself to us and was genuinely keen to ensure we enjoyed our meals - which we did! Food was delicious and well presented. My steak was cooked well and enormous! Happy to recommend Elsted and hope they enjoy continued success."

"Really pleased with the new people that have this pub! Great atmosphere and great food and good selection of beers, would recommend to anyone for a lunch or evening meal. Bed and breakfast is good value for money. If you are down in Sussex, come for lunch or supper!!"

I find pubs like this more of a rarity nowadays. The meal was lovely, with good beers on offer and nice decor. It's quite far from us so can't make it a regular haunt but if in the area again we will definitely be back!

“Passing through on the way home we needed a pit stop for food and drink. The Elsted Inn more than delivered. Food was honest and good quality pub grub, the likes you hope to see more often but not delivered by the chains and pub co's dominating the market. Lovely pint of Otter, delicious burger and BLT and really happy, attentive and genuinely enthusiastic service and landlordship, without ever being intrusive or OTT. Would highly recommend and will return next time we're in the area or planning a walk in this part of the Downs”

"Just how a pub should be. Good range of beers and food well cooked and tasty; staff genuinely friendly and good fun; surroundings, warm and comfortable, with great atmosphere, and set in a beautiful unspoiled part of the South Downs. One of a fast disappearing breed of pubs that have avoided the temptation to go corporate and abandon the local drinker in favour of becoming just a restaurant. But a great place to finish a walk or just have your Sunday lunch."

"Return visit to call in for Sunday lunch. Friendly and attentive bar staff. Thanks to Charlie the chef for accommodating special requests. Recommend pork belly."
